Health Careers

The Health & Wellness Center at the Lucile H. Bluford Branch offers a variety of programming and information about health careers.

One of the Center’s partners, Metropolitan Community College – Penn Valley, will make its Health Science Institute available for hands-on learning site visits by library patrons interested in working in the healthcare industry. The Health Science Institute is a 190,000 sq. ft. facility that features true-to-life simulation stations for unparalleled learning opportunities. Check the events calendar for upcoming visits.

Explorer Scouts, an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America, is a program for all teens that focuses on health career exploration. By participating in this program, teens will gain an understanding of health careers from the professionals themselves. Beginning in November 2010, Explorer Scouts will take place the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Lucile H. Bluford Branch. Check the events calendar for more information.

The Health & Wellness Center at the Lucile H. Bluford Branch is a partnership between The Kansas City Public Library, Truman Medical Centers, and the Health Sciences Institute of Metropolitan Community Colleges - Penn Valley. Funding for the project was made possible in part by a grant from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.
